There are many events planned for Kudzu Rails, including:

Whether your main interest is railroad history, present-day railroading, or prototype modeling, Kudzu Rails is the place to be. Some of the activities we're planning for this major event include:

  • Watching busy CSX mainline action
  • Visits to area rail museums
  • Prototype and modeling clinics
  • Model displays
  • Operating layouts
  • Society company stores
  • Railroadiana/model train show
  • Manufacturers' displays
  • Trackside eating and music

Some of the specific events are:

NS Lawmen Concert
Enjoy “Dinner by the Tracks” at the Kennesaw depot with food by several local restaurants and a live concert by the Norfolk Southern “Lawmen” music group.  The CSX main line is directly beside the museum, so train watching will be an outstanding feature during Kudzu Rails.

Over 25 Scheduled Programs and Clinics
We are sorting through a long list of interesting and informative programs and clinics
– there will truly be something for everyone! Just a few of those we are nailing down include:

  • Nationally known speakers on railroad history

  • Experts on Atlanta’s railroad heritage

  • Presentations on prototype trains, equipment, operations, and research

  • Clinics on modeling the prototype by respected model railroaders

  • Book authors

  • Most will be accompanied by extensive slide shows and other visual presentations

Railroadiana and Model Show – Free to Kudzu Registrants Friday and Saturday; Open to the Public Saturday ($5 admission fee)
The show will be open from 12 to 5 on Friday for Kudzu registrants, and open to the public 9 to 4 on Saturday ($5 admission fee).  We have about 12,000 sq. ft. of space, featuring over 200 tables of prototype and model items for sale and including each society’s company store. We're going to have one heck of a model railroading event too, with modular railroads at the show and at the museum, plus over 200 models on display at the museum. You DO NOT need to register for Kudzu Rails to attend the layout and model displays, but they are open to the public with admission fee.

The Grand Opening of the SRHA Achieves at the Southern Museum
We will open the new home of the SRHA's Archives to the public.

Public Slide Show

Everyone is welcome to attend a casual slide show Friday night May 21st.The location will be the freight depot at Kennesaw. We will start at 7PM and continue until 10PM.Anyone who would like to show slides please contact Uncle Joe Oates uj67@mindspring.com.

We will have portable lights set up trackside near the museum in order to do night photography and video of passing CSX trains. This will also be Friday night, starting at 8:30PM until 10PM.

Remember, both of these events are free and open to the public.  You do not have to be registered for Kudzu Rails to join in or show slides.
