TVRM "Hook & Eye" Blue Ridge Scenic RR Excursion

Thursday, May 20 (excludes bus transportation and lunch)

For those Kudzu Rails participants that want to stop on the way at Etowah, Tenn., to ride the ex-L&N “Hook & Eye” line from the junction with the CSX main line near Etowah 17 miles east along the Hiwassee River and return.

Parking for people driving their own cars is at the Gee Creek State Park . There are signs to the park off of US-411 south of Etowah. The train boarding area is across the street from the parking lot.

Departure will be at 10:00 AM.

Directions to Gee Creek State Park:

We are boarding at the Gee Creek Campground of the Hiwassee River State Park.

  • As you come South out of Etowah you will go through a construction area and then the highway will become four lane.  You will pass a Mr. Zip and the Deleno Post office on the right.

  • As you start down the hill to the Hiwassee River you will see a Brown Sign saying Gee Creek Campground with an arrow to the left.

  • Turn down the narrow winding road which is called Spring Creek Road.  If you get to the Hiwassee you have gone about two streets too far (its only about 200 yards too far).

  • Park in the Ranger station parking lot which is on the right across from where we board.
