Prototype History:
In 1926, Southern Railway built 500
flatcars measuring 41’ 6”, numbered in series 116850-117349. Over 100 cars
remained in revenue service in 1970, and many 27 flats were used as
platforms for transfer cabooses, and many more served in maintenance
service as wheel cars, in ribbon rail trains, and in wreck train service.
Many cars are still in maintenance service today.
Kit Design & Construction:
Smoky Mountain Model Works developed
the kit with 3D CAD/Solid Modeling design and rapid prototyping
techniques, based on drawings from SRHA’s collection. The result is a
highly detailed kit with unparalleled accuracy.
