On December 31st, 2008, SRHA completed
an agreement with Ben Roberts to acquire his photo and negative
collection. This collection consists of over 26,000 negatives and
2,000 photographs of Southern Railway steam and diesel locomotives,
freight and passenger cars, and structures.
This is a significant addition to our
archives, which will complement our existing collection of structure and
car drawings, area maps, and ICC Valuation information. Our current
plan is to tap all of these sources to begin a series of structure and
depot books for each state that the Southern served.
SRHA has made an initial payment, but
we have an additional payment due by the end of 2009. We need to raise a
significant amount of money to cover this payment. We are actively
seeking donations from our members, as well as applying for grants to help
offset the expense of this purchase. If you'd like to contribute,
